The State Board of Technical Education (SBTE) was constituted in 2002 vide Notification No. GOS/DTE/2002/IV (2)/212, dated 24/8/2002, to advise the State Government on all matters related to technical education in the state. It became operational in 2017 with the establishment of a small working office on the top floor of the Education Department, staffed by a few officials.
Currently, the state has three government-run technical colleges: two polytechnics and one engineering college.
Advanced Technical Training Centre (ATTC):Located in Bardang, Pakyong District.
Centre for Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT):Situated in Chisopani, Namchi District.
Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology (SIST):A degree engineering college at Chisopani, Namchi District, which follows the academic curriculum guidelines of Sikkim University and AICTE norms. SIST offers B.Tech programs in Computer Engineering and Civil Engineering.
ATTC and CCCT are affiliated with SBTE, which oversees their academic activities and awards Diploma Certificates. SIST follows guidelines provided by Sikkim University.
